Junior High/High School Art

PREREQUISITE: None
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Beginning course which takes students through basic art competencies which are required as a minimum for passing.
Students will:

1. Demonstrate an appreciation of art works
2. Relate to the artist as an individual
3. Recognize and name additional compositional elements in several art forms
4. Identify several current art styles

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Pencils, #2 and colored, notebook.

Spanish I

General Course Content

Spanish I attempts to provide a sound basis for learning the Spanish language and learning about the culture. The course develops the four basic skills of language: listening comprehension, speaking, writing, and reading. The subject matter is presented in the context of the day to day conditions of life in Spanish speaking countries.

Course Goals
The students will:

1. Begin to develop basic phonetic skills in the sounds of Spanish as distinguished from English.
2. Begin to accept the notion that languages differ from each other so that there is often an exact equivalent in
idiom from Spanish to English.
3. Begin to acquire elementary vocabulary to carry on simple conversation connected with daily life without dependence upon translation into English.
4. Begin to understand how Spanish has contributed toward enriching English vocabulary and culture.
5. Assess the personal career and cultural advantages of speaking and reading Spanish fluently.
6. Increasingly understand classroom direction in Spanish without confusion.

Special Learning Activities

1. Students will read the text, listen to tapes, practice pronunciation, learn the vocabulary and participate in oral work.
2. Students will do written exercises in the workbook or teacher prepared materials.
3. Students will read appropriate magazines.

Spanish II

PREREQUISITE: Spanish I or equivalent

General Course Content

Spanish II is a continuation of Spanish I and expands the vocabulary used in the first year. This course leads the student to a better understanding of Spanish speaking peoples and the incentive to become aware of world citizenship. Students read simple material and write short paragraphs.

Course Goals
The student will:

1. Further develop basic phonetic skills in the sounds of Spanish as distinguished from each other and from English.
2. Further develop acceptance of the notion that languages differ from each other so that there is often no exact equivalent in idiom from Spanish to English.
3. Further develop acquiring elementary vocabulary to carry on simple conversations connected with daily life without dependence upon translation into English.
4. Further develop an understanding of how Spanish has contributed toward enriching English vocabulary and culture.
5. Further develop an assessment of the the personal career and cultural advantages of speaking and reading Spanish.
6. Further develop increased understanding of classroom direction in Spanish without confusion.
7. Further develop familiarity with additional tenses of both regular and irregular verbs.
