A New Look to Instruction for Fall 2008 The Un-graded Reading/Writing and Math Block – Grades K-6 Next year there will be a few changes happening at the elementary in the areas of reading and math. Students will begin the day with their regular classroom teacher for a portion of the morning, which will be referred to as “Homeroom”. After Homeroom, classes will be going to a non-grade level block in the areas of reading/writing and math. Students will be assigned to one of the three classes based on their skills, ability, performance and assessments in each of these areas. By using this approach, teachers will be able to focus on each student’s instructional level. As the student’s instructional level increases/decreases, they will be placed appropriately. We are excited to implement this non-graded approach. It will allow students to feel more successful, rather than being frustrated in the traditional setting. Stop by and ask us any questions that you might have.
Have a great summer!
